ASHA has facilitated the delivery of key programs both in our existing school, the Ban Kung Learning Centre (BKLC) at Khlong Toei in Thailand, and a new program running in Israel. Through ASHA s financial support, the program has expanded considerably in the last financial year. A dance class was run and selected to perform in a Playing For Change video, in partnership with the United Nations. A fence just under 100 metres long was constructed around key areas of the pond surrounding the Learning Centre. This was done in response to an official request from the local government, who is responsible for BKLC s registration as a learning centre. This program is currently averaging around 30 children every Saturday and Sunday, with a younger cohort now coming out. As a result of their lessons, two of the students at BKLC have been assisting with teaching English in the local public school. BKLC has also been providing meals to local children in need and has been teaching the older children how to cook, they then cook for the younger children. A concrete pathway to the Salathai was built and ASHA purchased 9 scooters with a rack for the kids to enjoy it has been a massive hit. Finally, BKLC has initiated a social media and internet safety program to the kids, as they have often grown up without any connectivity, which is rapidly changing as smartphones have proliferated.
