Arctic Rescue Victoria (ARV) provides a rehoming, rehabilitation and education service for Arctic breed dogs, including Huskies, Malamutes, Akitas and Samoyeds. Over the past year, ARV has assisted with rehoming and care for over 20 arctic breed dogs surrendered by owners or taken into care from pounds and shelters, including some from situations of neglect and requiring medical treatment, so with longterm needs. Our service has responded to over 300 enquiries over the past year regarding the arctic breeds, dogs available for rehoming, requirements for fostering and sadly, a large number of surrender requests. We have also provided advice to those having difficulties with aspects of their dog's behaviour or care in order to avoid the need to rehome if appropriate, and have attempted to educate by providing breed information and advice on breed suitability for those considering an Arctic breed dog. Information and education is also provided via our website, which has detailed information on the arctic breeds as well as general training, behaviour, health and welfare information. Arctic Rescue Victoria has also provided essential medical care for a number of dogs that were surrendered with health issues that required surgery, treatment and rehabilitation before going to their new homes. This has included desexing and medical care and treatment for dogs with Cushings disease, Hypothyroidism, anxiety, epilepsy, Lupus, diabetes and joint issues, some of which ARV continues to support with ongoing medical treatment. The work of ARV is made possible by a dedicated team of volunteers, supporters and fostercarers without whom we would not be able to operate effectively. Also essential is the valued financial support of donors and funds raised through fundraising activities, keeping ARV in a good financial position and able to continue to assist arctic breed dogs in need.
