About Amaq Foundation
Fundraising in 2024 enabled the Foundation to provide grants to nine organisations supporting victimsurvivors of domestic and family violence across Queensland, with a particular focus on organisations supporting vulnerable or underserved individuals. In 2024 Medical Student Scholarships were awarded to 3 students with a fourth student receiving a scholarship supported by Indian Medical Association Queensland (IMAQ) under the Foundation s Sponsor one Student (SoS) Program. GPTQ Bursaries help the Foundation support training and research in general practice. Funds for these bursaries were obtained through successful application of a grant following the dissolution of General Practice Training Queensland. 2025 GPTQ Bursary recipients were awarded to three recipients The Foundation continues to support the Ladybird Care Foundation, who train and supervise Parent Mentors with lived experience of child bereavement. In 2024, the Foundation committed to train approximately 25 additional Queensland based mentors including regional and rural areas, so that this service is available more widely in Queensland. In 2024, the Foundation along with AMA Queensland provided support to Foundation of Medicine Bicentenary Conference. UQ Centre for Cancer Research also received financial assistance from the Foundation in 2024, contributing to the purchase of a digital PCR machine. This technology detects and quantifies biomarkers in tissue and blood samples that will be widely used within research teams across the Faculty of Medicine, especially in cancer.
