AIVL as the PWUD communitycontrolled peak organisation is the reference on peerled health promotion, harm reduction and peer workforce development to advance the wellbeing, health and human rights of the 4 million of people who use drugs (PWUD) illicitly in Australia and also support the development of peerled harm reduction and health equity in the AsiaPacific region with particular focus on reducing stigma and discrimination, drug law and policy related harms and deaths, blood borne viruses and sexually transmissible infections. AIVL is the peak body for the peerbased harm reduction and Drug User Organisations (DUOs), advises the Australian Department of Health and Aged Care and international partners on matters crucial to our communities and actively represents the interests of people who use drugs. In line with its strategic plan, AIVL's work is centered around peerled programs, education, health promotion and awareness campaigns, conferences and presentations, consultation and advice to policy makers on a range of health and human rights related issues.
