Aboriginal Legal Service (NSW/Act) Limited

The principal activity of the Aboriginal Legal Service (NSW/ACT) Limited is the provision of high quality and culturally appropriate legal services to eligible Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in New South Wales (NSW), the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) and the Jervis Bay Territory. The Company provides representation and duty lawyer services, legal advice, information and referral services in criminal law, children s care and protection law, family law, and some areas of civil law. Where possible, legal services are accompanied by culturally safe and holistic allied professional services including mental health and disability support, and early intervention services in family safety and child protection. The Company also leads a range of law reform, strategic policy and public advocacy initiatives in both NSW and the ACT, including providing expert advice and opinion on draft legislation and parliamentary inquiries, and speaking out publicly in the interests of justice and equity.
