About Tangoio Marae Trust

Tāngoio Marae Trust exists to uphold the tīkanga, kawa and mana of Tāngoio Marae and its associated urupā for the benefit of its beneficiaries and to manaaki manuhiri, in accordance with the objects and charitable purposes set out in the Tāngoio Marae and Urupā Reservations Charter.

During the year end 31 December 2025, the Trust continued to operate in the context of ongoing displacement following Cyclone Gabrielle. While significant recovery activity and funding negotiations occurred in prior reporting periods, the focus of the 2025 year was on prudent stewardship of resources, strengthening governance oversight, and maintaining readiness for the next phase of redevelopment.

Although the physical marae remains unavailable, Trustees continued to prioritise hapū connection and the protection of marae and urupā values. The Trust maintained oversight of rebuild-related funding, investment holdings, and associated planning activities to ensure long-term sustainability and compliance
