About Women in Need Society of Calgary
The society was established in 1992 to help women and families to reach self-sufficiency through innovative and effective programs and services. Wins' mission is 'connecting women and their families with resources to thrive'. The society supports women and their families in need by helping them build strong foundation in their lives to transition from surviving to thriving. The society currently operates seven community based thrift stores one bulk thrift store. House to home program is offered at every wins' retail store by providing basic needs goods to those in need at no charge. Revenues generated from the retail operations and fundraising activities are also used to operate five community resource hubs which help women and their families to connect with resources services and support in their local community. Wins also provide entry level employment training opportunities called 'retail ready by wins' and 'warehouse ready by wins'. These programs run for six weeks and provide participants with training and work experience and help them find and maintain employment in either retail or warehousing industry.
