Viccir is situated in victoria bc and provides psychological assistance to immigrants and refugees on vancouver island who suffer from the effects of trauma to the extent that their daily living is compromised. Most clients are referred by settlement agencies sponsorship groups schools for medical practitioners. As viccir’s work has become more well known in the community and in canada there are increasing numbers of self-referrals and referrals from family members and friends. Any immigrant who is able to access our services in person or electronically is eligible for services from an experienced registered clinical counsellor who has received additional training in intercultural treatment. Viccir has a roster of trained interpreters who speak many languages and are available when the client does not speak english. Continuity of councillor and interpreter is maintained throughout treatment. Counsellors are trained in various modalities whenever needed. Talking therapies somatic therapies edmr family and couples therapy are employed. Viccir offers parenting classes in several languages in group sessions. Viccir also offers training and consultation to settlement workers community counsellors teachers interpreters private sponsorship groups and others working with immigrants and refugees.
