Tusarnaarniq Sivumut Association - Music for the Future

We provide music education to youth in nunavut via in-person music workshops. We also provide weekly virtual music lessions (guitar lessons in three communities fiddle lessons in two communities ukulele lessons in one community). We also supported after school music clubs depending on the need and interest. Tsa- music for the future is committed to building capacity in communities in nunavut and has been working to find ways to engage youth and develop leadership skills. As such this past year we had our first youth mentorship program which including working with a senior student (long-time tsa music student) as a mentee to our instructors and culminated in having them travel to another community to assist with teaching and continue to learn about the process and develop teaching and leadership skills. This is a program we hope to build on and work with more students finding opportunities for them as mentees as well as additional opportunities for them to develop life and leadership skills and grow as muscians which has a positive impact on their schools and communities as wel as their mental health.
