About Shipwreck Preservation Society of Newfoundland and Labrador

Historical and archaeological research recording and analysis of shipwrecks around the coast of Newfoundland and Labrador. Public education and awareness of Newfoundland and Labrador shipwrecks history and archaeology. Public training in shipwreck survey and preservation techniques. In July and October 2023 members of the Shipwreck Preservation Society of Newfoundland & Labrador (SPSNL) surveyed the wreckage of US Navy Hudson PBO-1 bomber #03844 which crashed landed in an unnamed pond near Harbour Buffett NL on January 29 1942. In November 2023 members of SPSNL conducted multibeam sonar surveys of three shipwrecks off the South Coast of Newfoundland. Reports of our findings were published in the Government of Newfoundland & Labrador's Provincial Archaeology Office Annual Review 2023 which is publicly available online. In March 2024 SPSNL launched a new website (ShipwrecksNL.ca) with extensive information on shipwrecks found around Newfoundland and Labrador.
