About Federation of Mountain Clubs of British Columbia
To advocate for parks wilderness and access to backcountry non-motorized recreation for current and future generations; to advocate for and promote safe self-propelled outdoor recreation activities (such as hiking mountaineering backcountry skiing snowshoeing trail running paddling); and to facilitate and promote trail and hut building and maintenance and stewardship of BC’s backcountry. To provide grants to member clubs to build and maintain trails huts and infrastructure (i.e. signs bridges outhouses) skill development courses and mentorship programs. To allow bare land adjacent to a District park to be used by the public for trails (hiking and biking) and to access climbing crags which are in the District park. The FMCBC sources and maintains a third-party liability and D&O insurance program which allows participating member clubs (large and small) to obtain and benefit from reasonably priced insurance that protects club volunteers (i.e. trip organizers and trip leaders mentors and mentees and club organizers) who organize and run club trips skill development programs mentorship programs or host public events (i.e. trail building site or crag clean-up etc.) which benefit members and the public. Many member clubs would be unable to secure their own insurance because they are either too small or the insurance too prohibitive for them. This program is administered in part by our part-time administrator and FMCBC volunteers.
