Cherryville Community Food and Resource Society

Cherryville community food & resource society provides food security services including monthly hampers weekly drop-insm community fridge and meal programs for seniors. The commitment to food security includes distrubuting food they have in excess to wider community such as dvm camp cherryville elementary hot lunch program social events and farmers to reduce waste in landfills. In order to build community resilience the society offers educational classes in partnership with local homesteaders who provide oppotunity to community members to learn new skills and abilities around food sustainability. Additionally the society operates an organic community garden and hires local youth to maintain it providing meaningful work experience and employment opportunities for cherryville youth. The society values creating employment opportunities and continues to employ a person living with disabilities to cook for the senior meal program each month. In addition the society continues to grow and expand senior and disability services with includes transportation friendly visiting check-in calls meal programs online grocery shopping social inclusion and system navigation support. The resource centre provides increased information dissemination among cherryville residents as this is a major gap in the cherryville area. This includes a free monthly newsletter regular anouncements sharing and dissemination information awareness campaigns and offering one-to-one system navigation support for any cherryville resident inquiring. Opening lines of communication to the community the society has been able to launch new services identified as most important by the community which included child and youth programs.
