Breast Friends Society of Edmonton

Breast Friends Society of Edmonton provides members with the opportunity to participate in the movement of dragon boat racing for breast cancer survivors. The society provides: - A comprehensive training/conditioning program (in the gym outdoors and on the North Saskatchewan River) based on the research of Dr. Don McKenzie to improve strength flexibility function and cardiovascular fitness as well as mental heath and overall wellbeing following treatment for breast cancer. - Activities to raise awareness and educate the public about breast cancer its impact on survivors and the search for a cure through participation in dragon boat festivals and presentations. Every year Breast Friends expands their awareness and hope in a Dragon Boat. A new poster was created in 2023 which has continued to spread the word regarding our group. Adding the QR code has made accessing our website much easier for we are moving towards maximizing spreading the word about health and wellness after Breast Cancer. We continue to distribute information in the city and surrounding areas. During each year we participate in the following: i.e. City of Edmonton Health & Wellness Fair Run for the Cure monthly visits to Compassion House (support of people from rural areas undergoing cancer treatment in Edmonton). In 2025 we are expanding and improving our training program and hope to participate in additional festivals which host a survivor race to help spread the word across Canada. We will continue to attend several community events promoting our team and awareness throughout the year.
