About Big Brothers/ Big Sisters Association of North Durham Region
Community-based metoring program: adults in north durham are matched wit a child aged 6-16 of the same gender. This adult (big) provides support to the child (little) as the child navigates challenges to becoming a healthy adult. This program offers children and youth to connect with an adult to share the different expreiences in growing up together. Our matches meet within the community between 2-4 hours per week. In-school mentoring: in partenership with durham district school & cathloic boards this program is offered to schools in the brock scugog & uxbridge area. Adult volunteers and college & university students are matched with a child in a participating school. A mentor is matched with a child or youthbetween kindergarten and grade 8. They see each other for once a week for one hour. The mentor and mentee play games do arts & crafts bake talk read paly sports and other activites the mentee is interested in. The activities they do together area toll to help to build a connection and get to know each other. Matches do not have communication outside of their visits and do not see each other during the summer...
