About Association of Wetland Stewards for Clayoquot and Barkley Sounds
Conduct research monitoring and educational programs to raise awareness and help conserve amphibian populations under threat. This includes work to monitor movements and mortality of amphibians across highways during peak migration periods; design and install underpasses and barrier fences to reduce roadkill and provide habitat connectivity; restore riparian habitat along shorelines where amphibians emerge and disperse; install educational signs to raise awareness about sensitive amphibian habitat; monitor population trends by counting egg masses of amphibian species at risk; monitor for invasive species including Bullfrogs and Yellow Flag Iris which negatively impact populations of native species of amphibians; provide public presentations and postings on social media; share data and reports with government agencies other non-profit organizations doing similar work First Nations and the general public. In 2024-25 there were 33 volunteers who contributed over 400 hours to our programs.
