About Van Diemen's Band Ltd
In 2024 Van Diemen's Band promoted historically informed performance of Baroque music, forming a collective of highly respected early music specialists from Tasmania and beyond for performances, tours, recordings and other musicrelated activities. The annual program comprised curated concert presentations, community engagement and outreach, and professional development opportunities for emerging and established practitioners through our Fellowship program and Van Diemen's Voices. 2024 was again VDB s most active year since inception, with 58 performances (74% of which were selfpresented) experienced by 10,611 people in 12 locations across 4 intrastate tours, 2 festival appearances, an artist residency, an international artist recital, the arrival of Tasmania's own (and only) Baroque triple harp, and the expansion of the Lunchbox Concerts to Launceston, plus the establishment of Van Diemen's Voices. In 2024 VDB engaged 132 professional artists, 123 youth/community choristers and 43 arts workers, plus education and outreach activities reaching a further 500 participants. The annual program comprised curated concert presentations, community engagement and outreach, an artist residency, two festival appearances and professional development opportunities for emerging and established practitioners, including the newlyformed Van Diemen's Voices and the ongoing VDB Fellowship. In doing so we provided the Tasmanian, national and international public with a rich and informed audience experience that builds appreciation of Baroque music and adds to the cultural enrichment of the lives of individuals and community interest groups. Promoting and presenting local, interstate and international musicians increased performing opportunities for musicians across a range of genres and enriched concert culture in Tasmania. In 2024 we continued to expand repertoire beyond the Baroque, by commissioning and performing new works/arrangements that sit alongside and complement Baroque repertoire. We also delivered a training and development program that trains, mentors and develops local and national musicians, including skills development that culminated in professional playing opportunities. We continued to develop and maintain resources in the form of printed music, recordings, research material or any other resource relevant to the strategic objectives of the Association, including the acquisition and maintenance of instruments.
