The charity ensured it represented and supported as many English teachers in Tasmania as possible. Its activities included: the provision of professional learning for its individual and school members; providing strong advocacy for English and English teaching in the state via work with government, other educational associations and bodies, education departments and other bodies; promoting English and English teaching to the general public and to any or all interested parties, including to interstate and international practitioners; developing a range of resources of all types and providing them for members' use; providing a forum for English teachers in Tasmania and nationally to work together for the advancement of the English teaching profession; providing grants and scholarships to its members and prospective members and by by subsidising professional learning events held throughout the year.
