The Australian Institute for the Conservation of Cultural Material (AICCM) is the professional organisation for conservators in Australia. Conservators work to preserve Australia's heritage in museums, art galleries, libraries, archives and in private practice. Many AICCM members are professional experts in their field. They volunteer their time free to AICCM in the conservation treatment of all heritage for the beneifit of the community and public, from paintings, books and photographs to digital media and Antarctic heritage. Some voluntary conservators also specialise in collection management, preventive conservation and environmental analysis. The AICCM's membership is made up of individual, professional, institutional, student and concessional members including people who work in related professions, such as archivists, architects, curators and librarians, as well as volunteers and those with a general interest in cultural heritage. The AICCM aims to: To promote the science and art of the conservation of cultural material To promote cooperation and exchange amongst those concerned with the conservation of cultural material To improve the scientific and technical knowledge of the profession, and To advocate and inform on matters relating to the conservation of cultural material
