The activities of the Australian Academy of Health & Medical Sciences included (a) education by way of conferences to promote the practice of academic medicine and sustainable evidence based clinical practice; (b) promotion of Australian health and medical sciences through engagement with and provision of independent expert assessment and advice to the community, to government, and to other relevant stakeholders; (c) provision of a forum for recognition of high achievement in research in health and medical sciences and for debate and dissemination of knowledge in the field; (d) providing mentorship and support for aspiring academic clinicians and clinically focused/translational researchers; (e) contribution to other organisations having objectives similar to those of the Academy.
